Since 1998, Hoian authority started holding mid-month night festival on the night of 14th every month according to lunar calendar. Meanwhile, along with the bright moon and high sky is the diverse colors of lanterns. The streets are space for travelers to walk because at that time there is no public transport can be circulated. Visitors visiting Hoian will be resurrected in ancient scenery of ancient architectural style merged with fanciful, dreamlike space in Hoian.
Across the streets, electric lights become submerged by the colors of lanterns on almost wooden door frame. Hoian people love their products to the level of hanging lanterns everywhere like business sign lamps, decorative lamps … Even, there are some shops turn off completely normal electric lights, only use ranges of colorful lanterns to illuminate objects.

Hoian City is very quiet, even though the festivals are being happened with a very large number of tourists. Everything moves in a gentle, relaxed and safe way. Perhaps because of this rhythm of life, at about 22.00 all activities have stopped, at 23 o’clock in the festival area, every shimmering lights have given way to gloomy lights and some small sidewalk eateries.
The lanterns in Hoian are sold at affordable prices, the sellers almost do not overcharge too much. The small lanterns are around 5,000 VND (less than $1), the bigger ones are from 15,000 VND to 50,000 VND/ a lantern (from $1 to $2.5/big one).
