Rabbit island which is also known as Koh Tunsay is a little island in Kep City, Cambodia. The city of Kep is just around 30 km from the border gate in Ha Tien, Vietnam, so the travel from Vietnam to this attraction is quite easy at cheap cost.
From Saigon, you can buy ticket for bed seat bus or normal seat bus to Ha Tien provided by many transport brands including Mai Linh, Phuong Trang, Kumho. Be noted that Kumho is the only brand with transferring shuttle bus from Ha Tien parking station to the border gate, so that you can save a little amount of money for taxi or motorbike driver.
However, to save time, you should catch the bus departing at around 10 or 11 pm which shall arrives in Ha Tien at 5 or 6 pm the next morning. You then complete the procedures at the border gate and start the journey to Cambodia.
After finishing all the exit procedure from Vietnam and immigration procedure to Cambodia, you can ask a motorbike driver to take you to Kep if you travel alone.
Motorbike drivers are available at the gate border and you can bargain the price which is ranging from 300.000 VND to 400.000 VND for both ways. If you travel in a group, it is suggested that you hire a car of 4 seats, 7 seats or 16 seats to arrive in Kep.
Koh Tunsay or Rabbit Island is around 5 km from the Kep city and you can buy boat ticket right at the wharf at the cost of just for a round trips departing at 8 am and finishing at 5 pm. After just 30 minutes on boat, Rabbit Island appears with the image of the rows of coconuts along the romantic beach.
The little and pretty bungalows seem to be so small in between the green forest of trees, bringing tourists with super peaceful and pleasant feeling. The sea on this island is calm with gentle slope with fresh and clear water in blue which is suitable for bathing and swimming. The long sand beach is fine in yellow.
Especially, seafood on Rabbit Island is fresh and diverse. The popular dishes including boiled crabs served with pepper salt, fried fish, steamed shrimp with coconut juice become strangely attractive due to the fresh seafood which has just been caught from the sea.
The island is quite small with the total acreage of just 2 km square which is the home to just 5 to 7 households providing accommodation service for tourists. The bungalows on the beach are totally made of coconut leaves with the minimum convenience including a double bed, a blanket, a mosquito net and a toilet.
There is no air-conditioner, fan or electric in day time. Especially, nearby the bungalows and along the beach, there are the little lodges where you can lay down for relaxing, and enjoying the massage service at very cheap price of between $7 and $9 per 60 minutes, while listening to the songs of waves tapping to the sand beach and wind blowing through the coconut leaves.The space was so peaceful and romantic that keeps us far from the bustle and busy life in the cities. Let’s set all the stress and burden of daily life aside to enjoy these valuable moments.
You can travel to Rabbit Island from the early morning and then come back to Kep city in the evening or stay there for 1 night to experience the feeling of living in a place without sufficient modern facilities. There shall be no internet, but just the quiet space full of sea wind and the vast sky of stars. Room rate on the island is very cheap which is just $5 to $7 per night per bungalow. For those favorable conditions, a lot of foreign tourists from Europe, America or Australia choose to stay there even several weeks or months.
