If you think that there are not any interesting things to spend some days tour in Duong Dong town, you are wrong. This town will give you more than you expect. Phu Quoc which is also known as the Pearl Island is the largest island among the complex of 22 islands in this area. It also serves as the largest island in Vietnam with the total length of 49 km.

Phu Quoc in combination with other islands create Phu Quoc island district in Kien Giang province. The island district is of 589,23 km² in total acreage which is almost the same as the acreage of Singapore.

About the location, Phu Quoc is around 120 km and 45 km from Rach Gia city and Ha Tien town respectively. In 2006, the coastal and sea biosphere reserve in Kien Giang province including Phu Quoc district island was recognized as the world’s biosphere reserve by the UNESCO.

Phu Quoc includes 2 towns of Duong Dong and An Thoi and 8 other communes. Duong Dong town is considered the head quarter of the district island which is located in the Northwest region of the district.

Before my trip to this island district, I also searched for information, but there are very few information can be found about Duong Dong town. Thus, I am trying to provide the audience with as much information as possible to facilitate their your trips to this pretty town. At first, we talk about the entrance to the town. The first way is from the international airport of Phu Quoc.

In the past, Phu Quoc Airport was just a local airport which is located nearby Duong Dong Market. This airport has currently been upgraded to become Phu Quoc International Airport opened in the middle of December 2013. The construction is expected to be a bridge leading to the strong development in tourism of this island district in the time to come.

However, the international flights to Phu Quoc have been limited and the major flights are from internal airports of Can Tho, Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.

The coastal road leading to Duong Dong town from the airport is called Tran Hung Dao is the gathering place of a lot of hotels, resorts, restaurants, cafes, bars and so on. Phu Quoc island district is located inside Thailand Gulf which is said to be an important strategic location for military. Accordingly, there are many solders having their stations on the district.

There are just several main roads in Duong Dong town including Tran Hung Dao, 30/4, Hung Vuong and Nguyen Trung Truc. Remember the location of these roads, you can get to know all the typical destinations in this town. however, the locals here are not pay more attention on the names of the roads, they just know the location of the destination you may want  to come.

Thus, for the first time coming to the town, you can ask about a  road by the typical attractions or destinations on that  road. I found 1 high school, 1 secondary school and 2 primary school in Duong Dong town.

The second road leading to Duong Dong Town is the one from Bai Vong Port which is also the route to visit Tranh Stream and Ham Ninh fishing village. From Bai Vong, we can travel to either Tran Hung Dao coastal road or move around and turn to Hung Vuong Street. Passing Hung Vuong Bridge, you will come to an intersection where you can turn left to Nguyen Trung Truc Street.

Along the road along the market and Duong Dong River is the Floating Bridge. The bridge seems to be a ferry crossing the rover which is spent for 3 – wheel – vehicles, 2 – wheel – vehicles and pedestrian only.
Crossing the Floating Bridge, you shall see the sacred area of Duong Dong Town,not many people know that Phu Quoc is the original place for Caodai Religion.

From this point, you can travel for a moment to come to Dinh Cau Beach with the sacred temple of Dinh Cau, the squid fishing port, the district’s people committee, the district cultural center which are all easy to find.
Many people in Duong Dong Town follow Buddhism and so there are so many temples, pagodas and other similar places for worshipping constructed in this town.
